BDO Partner appointed President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ)

Martin Makaya was officially appointed President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe on 22 July 2017. Martin becomes the 101^st President of the Institute, and the second from BDO Zimbabwe

Martin joined BDO Zimbabwe (formerly Kudenga & Co.) in 1994 as a trainee auditor, became a Supervisor in 1998 and was promoted to Manager after a year and a half. In 2002, he moved into Industry and became General Manager-Finance for two companies within a listed group. He also became a Board Member of various private companies and chaired one of them. Martin re-joined BDO Zimbabwe as a Senior Audit Manager in 2004 and was later appointed a Partner in 2007.

Martin has vast working experience in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi and continuously travels the world for speaking engagements, training programmes and leadership/development courses. He is specialist auditor in mining, insurance entities, pension funds and medical aid societies. His passion for education is evident, not only within his own career, but also in our Firm as he plays a critical role in the success of our Trainee Clerks during their examinations to become Chartered Accountants.

As he takes the role of President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe, the partnership is pleased to deploy him fully toward the objectives of ICAZ and support his appointment. Martin was appointed President of ICAZ in his tenth year as a partner here at BDO and comes in as the Institute is set to celebrate its centenary; two significant milestones for the Institute and its members, and for Martin himself.

• Certified Public Accountant Malawi CPA(M)

Partner: Audit, Education & Business Development

• Adjudicator for the national awards for Corporate Government in Zimbabwe for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Zimbabwe (ICSAZ). Adjudicators are tasked with reviewing annual reports for listed entities to establish the extent of compliance with all governance matters.
